University Internationalization: Institutional Context and Challenges


Cognizant of the trends of globalization, it is now obvious that preparing university students with relevant knowledge and skills that are transferrable across sectors and borders for the job market has become imperative; and the best medium by which these skills can be nurtured is through international study experiences. But has international education made universities to regard humanity as one unit? Specifically, is the status quo (North-South Collaboration) construed as capacitating the South thereby rendering the collaboration as hegemonic and asymmetrical? These normative questions are at the heart of this paper which seeks to lay bare the institutional context and challenges of University internationalization with focus on the University of Education, Winneba.
