Training, a Tool for Staff Development in Higher Educational Institutions: Challenges and Issues. Evidence from Tamale Technical University

Abstract

Human resource Training in higher education institution is a dire aspect of the employee development of a knowledge-workforce in Ghana. The major goal of the study was to assess the issues and challenges of training as human resource tool for staff development in higher educational institutions. In order to achieve this objective, a quantitative method was conducted via questionnaire in a descriptive study. Purposive sampling technique was used to directly approach the eighty (80) respondents. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to analyze the data. The study gives adequate knowledge to HEIs as to the importance of training and why it is necessary that they are trained from time to time. The study found a relationship between employee training and firms’ productivity such as technical knowledge and new skills acquired for the job makes the staff to be effective and efficient.
