The Significance of Microfinance to the Development of Smallholder Cattle Farming Sector in Zimbabwe: A Case Study of Smallholder Cattle Farming Sector in Beitbridge District, Matebeleland South province

Abstract

The study sought to establish the significance of microfinance to the development of smallholder cattle Farming Sector in Zimbabwe. This was achieved through the phenomenology philosophy and a case study design, focusing on Beitbridge district in Matabeleland South Province. In this study, SPSS was used to analyse the data. The results show that micro finance is significant to the development of smallholder cattle sector in Zimbabwe. In addition, the study shows that microfinance is not readily available in rural areas.  Having said that, it is recommended that government should be involved in facilitating the provision of microfinance services to smallholder cattle farmers by providing guarantees.
