The Nature of Corruption along Ghana’s Transit Corridor: Is It More of “Bribery Involving Evasion” Or “Bribery Involving Theft”?

Abstract

One of the challenges militating against an efficient transportation of transit cargo along Ghana’s (GH’s) transit corridor is bribery. This study, using Dutt and Traca’s typology, ascertains, among one hundred people sampled from shippers, freight forwarders and truckers engaged in the Burkinabe transit business in GH, the more dominant type of bribery along GH’s transit port and road corridor to landlocked Burkina Faso (BF) and how to minimise it. Data were collected with the aid of questionnaires and structured interview schedules.
