With specific focus on the Accra Regional Library, this paper examines the role of the internet in enhancing library services, and the readiness of the Accra Regional Library to harness the potentials of the internet as a tool to enhance library services to the Ghanaian populace. Libraries have become more functional in this 21st century which is characterized by major strides in technological growth. For instance, libraries are fast advancing from the era of paper-based to electronic resources where information can be accessed electronically using laptops, smart phones, tablets, and other digital devices. Thus, in place of a physical library, today’s library can best be described as‘cybrary’ or ‘ebrary’. Information for this study was obtained through a structured interview guide with the Greater Accra Regional Librarian who also doubles as the National Coordinator for Library Connectivity. The findings indicatethat though the Greater Accra Regional Library recognizes ICT as vital tool to improve its service, little efforts have been made to exploit these benefits. For instance, the library has not subscribed to the digital library for up-to-date and wider access to e-resource; basically due to limited budgetary allocationfrom Central Government which is the main source of funding. Thus, the library depends much on donations from individuals and civil society groups to undertake its developmental initiatives. The libraryhowever, has internet connectivity; trained staff with the necessary ICT skills; and some few computersfully hooked to the internet.
