Abstract

The Ghanaian government is working hard to reduce unemployment by encouraging and assisting small-scale businesses. However, the issue of unemployment still exists to some extent. This study therefore seeks to develop patterns in macramé to expand the craft industry by supporting small medium enterprise. Macramé is an interesting technique which is taught in higher institution in Ghana, if properly taught and engaged, it will help boost entrepreneurship. The development of new patterns by adapting the Successive Approximation Model (SAM) in accessory making seeks at breaking new grounds in knotting macramé patterns for teaching and learning. To teach accessory making, a step-by-step procedure was developed based on adapting the Successive Approximation Model (SAM) by combining the Clove hitch and Square knots into macramé patterns for teaching advanced skills in accessory making with the technique of macramé. Macramé production is hence an avenue for economic empowerment in creating employment by producing accessories for boosting entrepreneurship in Ghana.
