The data was analysed using content approach. The study revealed that the involvement and subsequent prolongation of the military in civil security function have numerous consequences on the peace and security of the country. In addition to the associated risk of power struggle between the police and the military, the presences of the military within the population further exposes the strength and weakness of the country’s defense apparatus hence exposing the capabilities to potential adversaries. However, as a panacea, the article recommends that Nigeria government should procure ultramodern war gadgets to hasten the combating of the insurgency so as to allow the military returns to their barracks. Government should also propound standing laws that can stipulate the security jurisdiction of all the security agencies and the military to minimize the unnecessary clashes among the agencies.</p> ER -
