Labour Turnover and its Effects on Performance of Public Firms in Ghana

The research seeks to examine Labour Turnover and its Effect on Performance of Public Firms in Ghana and to identify strategies to reduce labour turnover in public firms in Ghana. The participants in a descriptive cross-sectional survey included 400 employees, purposively selected across some public firms in some selected regions in Ghana. Statistics were obtained using both descriptive and inferential methods. The study established that employee turnover in Public Firms in Ghana have the following effect on performance of such firms. These are, "low productivity," "reduce profitability of business," "high expense of training and hiring new personnel," "Management irritation," and "decline in service quality." It was discovered that to solve these effects, Management should adopt the following possible strategies to reduce labour turnover in Ghanaian public firms. Among the strategies may include "rewarding employees for long service," "establishment of flexible time schedules and free health care for employees, provide opportunities for promotion, professional development, and acknowledgment of noteworthy accomplishments. Employee turnover has an impact on both employees and firms as the need to learn new job-specific skills and locate alternative employment opportunities are among the disruptions that affect workers.
