Training and Development on Job Performance in Polytechnic Libraries in Ghana: Librarians’ Outlook.

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between training and development and job performance among Library staff of Polytechnics in Ghana. The study was a descriptive survey with the use of questionnaire as the main instrument to gather data. Out of one hundred and sixty four (164) questionnaires distributed to the population, one hundred and forty four (144) were retrieved representing 87.8%. With the use of Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) Descriptive Statistics and Correlations Analysis were done base on the main variables in the study. The result shows that all of the five (5) constructs; Effort (ET), Ability &Skills (AS), Role Perception (RP), Resources (RS), Competencies (CP) reveal positive significant statistical relationship with training and development. The study recommended that, training and development among Library personnel must be continuous and systematic for better job performance.
