This study assessed how third-party logistics service providers like Maersk Ghana Limited, Kumasi
branch whose main focus is on logistics outsourcing contracts and its key customers manage their
logistics outsourcing activities. Maersk Ghana Limited, Kumasi branch and its key customers were
chosen due to availability and easy access to data. It was revealed from the research that Maersk Ghana
Limited, Kumasi branch enjoys a lot of benefits from managing its logistics outsourcing activities. Some
of these benefits include Cost reduction, continuous exposure to new technologies, best practices in the
industry, consistent profit growth rate, transformation of superiority into competitive pricing through
economies of scale and improvement of staff skills through efficient training. Unorganized small firms’
engaging in import and export activities and short deadlines were some of the challenges encountered by
Maersk Company Limited and its key customers respectively. The research recommends that those
unorganized small firms engaging in import and export activities, without import and export license
must be advised to license their activities, so that together with those who have license already, Maersk
and these small firms would adopt a mutually beneficial strategy to expand their outlets to districts and
regional capitals all over the country which could serve as a competitive advantage.
