Effect of NPK (23-10-5) On Growth and Yield of Two Cowpea Varieties (Asontem and Asetenapa)

Effect of NPK on two cowpea varieties (Asontem and Asetenapa) was investigated in the major season (March – August) of 2009 and 2013. In 2009, three levels of NPK (23-10-05) comprising (i) no fertilizer, (ii) NPK at 125 kg/ha applied 9 days after sowing, and (iii) NPK plus a top-dress of 50 kg/ha sulphate of ammonia 21 days after sowing, were tested in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The second experiment involved 40 kg/ha triple superphosphate as a blanket plus four rates of NPK (0, 30, 60 and 120 kg/ha) at planting, replicated eight times in a randomized complete block design. NPK had no significant effect on percent seedling establishment in both trials.
