Delivering Quality Technical Education in Technical Universities in Ghana: the Role of Total Quality Management (TQM): The case of Tamale Technical University

Abstract

The study was conducted in the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) to ascertain the delivery of quality education for students through the concept of total quality management (TQM).  The study was conducted to achieve two specific objectives: to assess the adoption of quality management practice and to identify the key barriers to the adoption of total quality management practice in the TaTU.  A sample size of 227 was selected from a population of 561 using the Krejcie and Morgan Table of sample size determination.  Descriptive statistics were used to analyse data gathered from respondents.  The study revealed that TaTU adopted TQM to improve its operations in delivering quality education to its clientele.  Some key barriers to ensuring quality educational system in TaTU were identified and key among them were disruptions in academic calendar due to strikes
