Attitudes of Ghanaians in Canada towards Traditional Medicine: Implications for Practice, Policy and Research

Abstract

In Canada and other developed nations, there is an increased use of alternative health care normally referred to as Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). The study examined Ghanaians in Canada, considering how acculturation was related to attitudes and usage of Traditional Medicine (TRM) which is classified under CAM. Over 500 questionnaire interviews were conducted in the Greater Toronto Area in addition to three focus groups of nine participants each. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used.
