Abstract The study examines student attitude towards mathematics in Sagnerigu Municipality of NorthernRegion in Ghana. The objectives of the study were to assess the perceptions of students learning in mathematics and its influence in their attitude towards mathematics. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 180 Senior High School students in Sagnerigu Municipality of the Northern Region of Ghana. Questionnaire were used to collect data and subsequently analysed with the use of SPSS. The results revealed that, student attitude towards the study of mathematics are a function of teachers teaching methods. Students exhibited a positive attitude when teachers’ use student centred strategies that motivate every student to put up his/her best. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were made among which was, mathematics teachers need to have fore knowledge about learners’ attitudes toward mathematics since it affect teaching and learning of the subject.
